Welcome Summer

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I have had enough of the rain! I've heard all the humans being so happy that Summer is now officiallly here - but I have to be honest, as excited as I am about a bit of sunshine, I'm terrified of the heat. The humans say I don't cope very well in the warmth, but to that I would like to issue them a challenge to try and keep their cool while wearing a very tightly buttoned fur coat in direct sunlight. Any takers? No, I didn't think so.

My main tactic in beating the heat is to find a cool place, lie down, and stay as still as possible. But sometimes the humans still want to go for walks. I go along with them but in the heat it can be hard to muster the energy. I always just hope we'll end up at the beach where I can at least keep myself cool in the water.

We went to my favourite beach a couple of weeks ago when the weather was nice and I had the best day ever. The sun was shining, the water had a nice cooling effect, and I was so popular with some of the other dogs that my game of fetch became a group game. I'm lucky because my man-human can throw a ball really far, so we have further to chase it.

The only downside of the day was that one of the other dogs liked me too much. I chased the ball, he chased me. I tried to lose him, he stuck with me like sand in my fur. I didn't know how to tell him politely to please leave me alone. I tried to show him how big my teeth were but even that didn't work. I hoped his human might try and control him but unfortunately that never happened either. The only option I really had was to keep on running and so that's what I did. I don't think I've ever run so much in my whole one year of life! And, even though I hear my humans sometimes saying I'm a pain, I don't think I've ever been as annoying as that little staffy. I will have to start practising ...
